政治・社会

2011年のエジプト革命後、経済的に厳しい状況が続いている。一人あたり国民所得は約3,340ドル、失業率は12.8%である。人口は約9,000万人、人口構成はピラミッド型で若い年齢層が多い。人口増加により、家族計画が重要な政策課題になっている。2014年の出生率は3を超えている。

 

民族･宗教

民族はアラブ人の他、少数のヌビア人、アルメニア人、ギリシア人。言語は主にアラビア語が話され、他にコプト語が話されている。宗教はイスラームが90%(ほとんどがスンニ―派)、エジプト土着のキリスト教であるコプト教が9%、その他のキリスト教が1%である。

体外受精

不妊治療として、体外受精が浸透してきている。1990年代末までに約40施設のクリニックがある。2005年の報告では、10,353サイクルの体外受精が行われ、3,352人の子どもが誕生していると報告されている。

 

代理出産

スンニ―派イスラームでは、代理出産は禁止されている。
代理出産は法律で禁止されている。違反者には5年の懲役が課される。

 

精子・卵子提供

スンニ―派イスラームでは、配偶子提供は禁止されている。
